Congress Currently Working on Improving Staffing

Staffing is a HUGE issue in long-term care facilities. This is a no brainer! It is not possible to give acceptable care if there is not enough staff. Allowing nursing homes to operate this way should no longer be allowed to be the norm. We cannot ignore or accept this any longer! Staffing is so lacking at times, that Medicare had to engage mandatory payroll reporting to get the real story on staffing. Many times they are not meeting minimum staffing, and the payroll reporting was needed to get more reliable data. We see many times the facilities do not have volunteer programs set up as most hospitals do. They do not promote Family Councils as an effort to improve care. They put a lot of effort into fighting whatever will improve care. Read about these efffors in Congress here.
