An Effort to Add Nursing Home Facilities Patients' Bill of Rights to Ohio Constitution

Carolyn’s Law…an effort in Cleveland Area for our eldelry and all in long-term to receive acceptable and proper care they deserve to have! Many have had bad outcomes with their loved ones that should never happen due to understaffing which results in neglect too many times. These are not the only issues, but one of the biggest issues.

We hope with more awareness, and more individuals and organizations advocating, that the nursing homes will finally come to the table and work to resolve these issues. We are no longer accepting this is the way it is.

UPDATE: On 11/29/19 Jessie Ruffin who was interviewed in this article asked to post the information he feels he was misquoted on, he wants to add comments to the article. Here is his request:

there are several miss-quotes to the article.

1.       Carolyn fell soon after her surgery, putting her in a coma and almost killing her (she almost died)

2.       Most proposed constitutional amendments in Ohio these days are put forward by large, well-funded organizations. Ruffin doesn’t have that – at least, not yet – but he voiced confidence that he can get the support needed to pass the measure. (I didn’t disclose any organizations supporting this issue at this time, however I stated that we are seeking the support from the 11.7 million individuals in the state of Ohio)

3.       The point is, it has to be done,” Ruffin said. “And I know there's a lot of people out here who have a lot of money who will be willing to fight this tooth and nail. Because it’s going to hit pockets.” (I stated it would pay for itself by reducing cost to insurance companies, Hospitals, medical expenses to patients and lawsuits among other expenses.)

4.       The deadline for proposed amendments to make the November 2020 ballot has already passed. But Ruffin said he’s not too concerned about when his proposal might be voted on. (That is not true, we have until July 1, 2020 to submit the 490,000 signatures.)

5.       I have learned an early lesson not to trust anyone to quote my statements. Please make the necessary corrections about this article.
