Who Are You and What Do You Do Elderly Advocates?

We will keep educating so everyone understands who we are and what we do. This has been the two most asked questions. Sometimes, there is confusion between lobbying vs. advocating, and we hope this article will give a better understanding of who we are and what we do.

Starting this organization has brought more than normal educating. Not only do we educate residents and families on their rights and resources to help them, we must educate all that cross our path at Elderly Advocates. Due to only having government agencies in our state in the past to help those in long-term care, we have learned what a 501c3 nonprofit can do to help residents and caretakers. We also have learned what a 501c4 is and how that seperately can help those in long-term care facilities. Now, we want to share that information with you and why we work so hard for this organization to exist.

This is a unique advocacy organization in that we are not a government agency like the Ombudsman or Office on Aging who helps residents and caretakers. We are an organization that does not apply or depend on state funding so we can be objectionable when we bring up challenges that residents and families experience with state agencies. Our hope is to resolve these issues and help them be more succesful in helping residents and families. We hope to set the bar high in Ohio in care for those in long-term care facilities. We are a state that can lead the way for others!

This is also why we depend on public donations to help pay for the things that need to keep this organization going and growing. Also, this is why we need volunteers to help until we find funding for staff. We want to make sure we can advocate for the challenges that have been ignored for so long for residents and families in long-term care without fear of losing funding. We must kchallenges gaps in the sidewalk to be able to resolve and repair them.

We hope this article gives a better understanding of why we have formed and what we do.

If you support and feel there is a need for this type of organziation, please consider volunteering for even an hour a week and/or sending financial support.

We appreciate all those that have made sure we keep going and growing! We appreicate that we have already made a difference and been able to give information, resources and support to many in Ohio, Nationwide and all the different countries we see are are getting information from our website.

Here is a great article from Non Profit Quarterly and gives a good understanding of what Elderly Advocates works to do as a 501c3 nonprofit
