This Bill DOES NOT Protect residents!!

Abuse, willful negligence, and criminal activity cannot be legislated away. Ever. Even in an “emergency.”

Families were suddenly stopped from in-person visits in nursing homes due to the COVID-19 Crisis. They accepted this due to the situation.

What they didn’t expect was a major lack of communication as to policy, procedures, and challenges faced inside the facility that affected their mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and other family members. They didn’t expect to have to engage the media to get timely notifications of COVID-19 positive cases in facilities. They didn’t expect to give total trust to a broken system that they didn’t trust before the crisis. They didn’t expect to give total authority to the facilities in the care of their loved ones. They did expect to beto be excluded from being part of the team as they always had in filling the gaps in care and advocating for their loved ones. Now, there is a bill introduced to take the facilities accountability away from the families that had no say in anything. This is not fair or a right thing to do.

We need to email our representatives and senators as to how this bill does not protect our vulnerable elderly.
