2019 A good year in starting efforts to help the elderly in long-term care

Looking back over the year,...for a such an overwhelming task to improve the quality of life for the elderly in long term care in this much broken system, there were many positive steps taken in Ohio in the right direction to address this crises, some include:

Seeing someone continuing to work hard to get cameras in nursing homes and introducing a bill, called Esther's Law, we see another person working on petitions to amend the Ohio Constitution to set minimum staffing levels, called Carolyn's Law, we see a law being worked on currently for Dementia and related conditions for healthcare staff to be licenced and certified whom assist these residents, we see Summit County start a task force for nursing homes and facilites led by the County Council President, Jeff Wilhite, we see a fire dept ask a city council to temporary hold on allowing another assisted living facilty in their city to be built until they figure out how they are going to answer all the calls for ambulances and emt's, we have started a much needed advocacy organization, Elderly Advocates, this year to help residents directly and get the information and resources out to the familes who care for them. We work to bring awareness to this crisis, the need for help from many of us to get someting done, and we support other's efforts in getting the care our elderly deserve.

When we all come together and work in a positive direction there is no limit to what we can accomplish. For we must always keep in mind, we all work towards the same goals, We want our loved ones to be respected, maintain their dignity, and have have safe and quality care.

The people in Ohio continue to make a loud statemetent that we need and want better care for our loved ones in long term care. It is hard for one person or organization to find all the solutions to this crisis that has grown so out of control, however, all of us together, we can find the needed solutions taking on different efforts.

We are looking forward to 2020 and all the accomplishments and progress we all will make together.

The Board of Elderly Advocates,

Paula, Jennifer, Vicki and Chrissy
