OUR MISSION is dedicated to improving the overall quality of life for the elderly and all residing in long-term care through education, support & advocacy.

TO ANSWER THE TWO MOST ASKED QUESTIONS:

Who Are We?

OUR ORGANIZATION is a 501(c)3 non-profit and the first communtiy organization formed in Ohio to help those struggling in long-term care and is composed of family members and caregivers, citizens who sympathize with our cause, business professionals and community partners. We also have many families and caregivers who have lost loved ones and believe poor care and our broken health care system leads to in bad events, which can cause premature deaths, and traumatized endings for our elders and their families. Our organization believes there are four kinds of people in the world as Roselynn Carter once said, “ There are only four kinds of people in this world: those who has been a caregiver, those who are currently caregivers, and those who will be a caregiver, those who will need a caregiver.” Our organizaiton grows as more come to realize, this is something that is just as important as financially preparing for retirement, if not more important than money. If we are lucky to live long enough, there is a good chance our money will run out.

What Do We Do?

We are dedicated to seeing our aging population thrive to the best of their ability and having opporuntiy for the quality of life they deserve as anyone else living outside a nursing home can have access to, that includes even a haircut. Through peer support, empowering familes with information and resources, networking with others, families will be empowed when making decions they suddenly face in a world of long-term care that they often know little about. We desire to see that those in long-term care facilities are treated with respect, maintain their dignity and receive the long-term care they deserve. A few of our current activities amoung others include:

  • Educating the residents and designated resident representatives that a camera in a resident room can be life saving where they are permitted! It can be used by the family to proactively notify staff their family needs help and avoid a bad event or outcome. It can also help them monitor the resident for a change in status as most times they now their family member better than anyone! With a sign outside the door, it can help staff leave a bad day at the door before entering a resident room. This can improve care and bad events from happening. We will assist with the cost of a camera if needed.

  • Advocating for every facility to engage a Family Council. This can greatly improve communication between the facilty and families! This can reduce state complaints by giving a chance to the facilitiy to resolve complaints first by them. We view this as being similar to a PTA relationship that parents have with a school. It’s a win for the schools and can a win for residents, families, and the facilities too! We have develeped easy step by step Family Council Toolkit book in partentership with Eadie Law Firm that we are giving out to caregivers and can be requested by emailing us. Elderly Adocates will also assist yoiu every step of the way!

  • On a daily basis we empower families by providing education and resources on our Facebook page & Website, and we give direct support through emails and phone calls.

  • We will always provide information and resources free to the public that will help them in their challenges. We also now offer a paid membership to provide opportunities for involved adovcates & supporters more information that may help them in their advocacy, give networking opportunites, and support from peers.

Together, we can make a difference!
